AYUDH UK is now launching it's first tree-planting project named “Amma’s Acre”. The project was blessed by Amma during her recent visit to the UK, who was beaming with excitement and held two thumbs up as we all left the stage after the presentation (click here to watch the video).
The project will be a 3 year long endeavour to consciously plant trees with compassion, universal awareness and our inherent harmony with Mother Nature. Our planet Earth is a pale blue dot in the vastness of space, but it is our only home. The planet has suffered much over the years due to mankinds activities. This Environmental Awareness Project will be a step towards restoring and healing our planet, our home.

So far the project has seen 150 trees donated and delivered to the site in the last few months, with more to follow. Preparations are also on the way to arrange food, accommodation and transport for everyone who will be part of this tree-planting project.

The initial date we have set for the first weekend in Devon is leaving London to travel up to the site on Friday evening, starting Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th February. We need to have a list of all those wishing to take part in the project. So please reply to this mail to submit your name and confirm your interest. There will be a small cost to help cover transportation, accommodation and food.
Much more detailed information will be presented in a few weeks, however at this stage it is crucial to confirm those who wish to take part, so please reply to info.uk@ayudh.eu to reserve your space and we will be in touch soon. AYUDH - UK is starting a Tree-Planting Project

AYUDH UK made their colourful appearance felt this year by a number of activities during Amma’s visit in UK. On the first day of the program, the AYUDH members approached Amma with dove-shaped cookies, which the youth had baked, in an attempt to have them blessed. The cookies were in the shape of AYUDH logo, a Dove, in order to raise donations for her charitable activities. Amma threw flowers on the cookies and youth placing a sweet in each of their mouths.

The second day the AYUDH group all clothed in their white AYUDH t-shirts, congregating by the side of the stage as Amma entered the main hall for the evening programme. After anouncing the celebration of their 1st UK anniversary, the talk covered all the recent UK projects and activities such as the Green Garden charity project, Care for the elderly, Dove Cookie Baking Charity project, Kirtan workshops and their most recent venture: a tree-planting project. At this point the youth carried a pear tree up to Amma for blessing, which would be planted as part of the garden project in an effort to raise an awareness of growing one’s own fruit in their private gardens. This was followed by the presentation of a pot of seeds, which would be used for the proposed tree-planting project. After the presentations were complete, Amma invited all AYUDH members to receive a sweet, which Amma lovingly placed in each member’s mouth, along with an embrace. The speech was brought to a close by quoting Amma’s beautiful words:

May the tree of our life
Be firmly rooted in the soil of love,
Let good deeds bet he leaves on that tree.
May words of kindness form its flowers
And may peace be its fruits.

As the youth exited from the stage, Amma gave them an excited smile along with gesturing encouragement and support by holding up her two thumbs up together. Every youth was seen leaving the stage filled with the sense of love and excitement which Amma herself had displayed.

AYUDH UK Battles with Brambles

AYUDH UK's year-long project: 'Amma's Secret Garden' slowly heads towards the 2nd Phase. Phase I was completed in March 2008 which involved the clearing and stripping of a large over-grown private garden to the bare soil to raise funds for Amma's charitable activities. A small AYUDH team took part on the weekend of September 13th/14th in preparing for Phase II. The weekend's hard work saw significant progress with the detail of the space with the removal of dead trees, overhanging branches and trimming, allowing much needed sunlight into the garden.

The initial plan was also to complete the preparation of the ground for laying lawn, but too many brambles have delayed this job. The resilience of the brambles has been incredible. As AYUDH members took on the might of Nature, the only weapon seemed to be patience. Phase II (Lawn laying) has been delayed till 2009 coupled with Phase III (Landscaping & Planting), bringing the garden to completion by Summer 2009.

Amma’s Secret Garden- Phase I completed!

This Easter weekend saw the emergence of AYUDH UK in action in one of their first large-scale fund-raising project. The UK youth gardening project which received blessings from Amma during the 2007 UK visit, finally reached its launch date. The youth were greeted by the elements of nature in the form of artic winds, rain, hail and snow. They persevered however, in the spirit of Amma's words, 'Look at the optimism of nature, nothing can stop it'. A combination of group prayers, smiling faces with laughter and sheer hard work saw the successful completion of Phase I of the project.

The weekend began with the youth chanting the 108 names of Amma, after which the weather seemed to conveniently make way for work to begin. A number of volunteers stayed the night to gain an early start the next day and the evening evolved into spontaneous vibrant sessions of music, food and late night talks. The vigour and enthusiasm of the entire group seemed to usher the work along ever so quickly. The end of the weekend saw many tired and aching but filled with joy and a sense of achievement, leaving many ready and waiting for the arrival of Phase II.

Amma's Secret Garden: AYUDH UK Youth Garden Project

What's Amma's Secret Garden about?

Amma's Secret Garden is the name given to the first large-scale AYUDH UK Youth project. We are trying to involve as many youth as possible to help strip and clear a large overgrown garden, to pave the way for landscaping and planting of flowerbeds and herbs. The general aim is that it will be messy, fun and in the process raise £2000 for Amma!!! An additional underlying thought behind the project is to provide an opportunity for the youth to come together and also to establish a relationship with 'Mother Nature' which we seldom get living in a concrete jungle.

Why is it a secret?

Mainly because the outcome is unknown. We approached Amma with our proposal during the 2007 UK visit. After making us wait in anticipation Amma turned to us, gave a smile with her head rocking side to side in approval. How we were going to deliver the project was still a mystery! The term 'Amma's Secret Garden' arose by accident while discussing the project. Immersed in conversation about when and what to do while dreaming about the garden to be brought in to existence, Tom our gardening consultant said "when its finished it'll be like Amma's Secret Garden." The truth is how the garden will finally look like in the end is a secret only Amma knows.

The launch of Amma's Secret Garden Project draws ever closer. We've had a good response so far and we still have a lot to tell people regarding details of the project. We started this blog to keep everybody in the loop and to give a little preview of up-coming attractions. We will be sending out an information pack for the weekend to all those who have confirmed their attendance. Project video and photos below, details at the end.
